The reasons

In some cases, itching in the intimate area in men is associated with non-compliance with personal hygiene rules or improper selection of underwear. However, more often the symptom is based on the following pathological conditions:

  • STD. Genital herpes, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis, candidiasis, etc. are among the sexual infections accompanied by itching of intimate areas. At the same time, a clinic of specific urethritis, balanitis, and dermatitis develops in men.
  • Dermatoses. Infectious dermatoses include such contagious diseases as pubic pediculosis, scabies, ringworm. Non-infectious dermatoses (psoriasis, eczema, atopic dermatitis, allergic dermatitis, prickly heat) are not contagious
  • Systemic diseases. Dry skin of the intimate area and accompanying itching are caused by diabetes mellitus, hypothyroidism, hypovitaminosis, anemia, etc.
  • Urological pathologies. Changes in the composition of urine in pathologies such as salt diathesis, urolithiasis, often lead to skin irritation. In addition, itching of intimate places can be caused by urinary incontinence in older men.
  • Other reasons. In some cases, the causes of itching of the skin of intimate areas in men are psychogenic factors (stress, dermatozoic delirium), taking certain medications.

The lack of timely diagnosis and treatment of itching in the intimate area in men leads to complications: phimosis, strictures of the urethra, skin lichenification. In addition, with contagious infectious diseases, sexual partners and family members are infected. Therefore, with the problem of itching of the genital organs, a man should immediately contact a dermatovenereologist or urologist.
